Don't know your Kidou from your Bankai, your Whole from your Hollow? Fear not, the Hollow's here help. Here's some Bleach terms and jargon to help clear the confusion.

Shinigami
Shinigami (Soul Reapers) - The rulers of death, they oversee all souls and act as guardians, ensuring the Whole's safety from the Hollows by cleansing them with their Zanpakuto. They send souls to a place called the Soul Society.

Shikaushyou - The robes of a Shinigami. All Shinigami robes look more or less the same, though some variations have been seen based on the Shinigami's personal preferences. The addition of a cloak for a captain with the symbol of their repsective squad on the back is the only difference in appearence between a regular Shinigmi and a Captain. A Lieutenant (Vice-Captain) recieves an armband with they respective squad number engraved on it.

Soul Society - The Shinigami's headquarters. Also the base of the 13 Court Guard Squads (Gotei 13), the seperate divisions of the Shinigami. The Soul Society holds many secrets, some more deadly than others, and is home to various characters. The central keep, where the Shinigami live, is called the Seireitei and acts as their base of operations. The areag around the Seireitei is called Rukongai, and is where the common souls live; it is divided into discricts of different numbers, and higher the designated number, the higher the crime rate in that area.

The Central 46 - The direct superiors to most of the Shinigami, they oversee the inner workings of the Seireitei and act as a council, passing judgement on those who have broken Soul Soiety law. The Central 46 consists of 40 sages and 6 judges, once a judement of theirs is made, there is no exceptions, not even a captain can override it's authority. They also give out orders to the Shinigami in times of crisis.

Senzaikyuu - translated the "Repentance Cell", this fortified tower is constructed of seki-seki stone, blocking all spirit energy of the prisoner confined within. The tower also boasts a scenic view of the Soukyoku, where the prisoner will be executed, they are intended to be able to look upon their inevitable death, and repent their sins, thus the name.

Zanpakuto - A Shingami's blade, translated "Soul Slayer"; their main weapon to fight the Hollows. Each Zanpakuto is unique to the Shinigami, and has a spirit of its own. When a Shinigami defeats a Hollow, the Zanpakuto cleanses the Hollow of if its sins committed as a Hollow and sends the soul to the Soul Society. However, those who were evil and committed heinous crimes in life, they send to Hell (not a good place to be).

Shikai - The first release of a Shingami's Zanpakuto, granting it new abilities and attacks giving the Shinigami more power. A Zanpakuto is released when the Shinigami calls out a releasing word or phrase and the Zanpakuto's name, though if the Shinigami has achieved Bankai, they need not recite the incantation to release it, signifying their mastery of their Zanpakuto, and it's spirit.

Bankai - the second release of a Zanpakuto, bringing out its spirit. When summoned, the Zanpakuto's spirit usually embodies itself in a large form. This is the ultimate form of a Shinigami's blade and must be trained with for 10 years to be completely controlled. To release it, a Shinigami must simply call out, "Bankai". A Shinigami striving to become a captain must first have achieved Bankai. When one has achieved Bankai, they no longer have to call upon the name of their Zanpakuto to release its Shikai, signifying they have become master of their Zanpakuto.

Kidou - A spell used by Shinigami that releases their spirit energy in the form of an attack. There are also forms of Kidou that can be used for healing. A Shinigami can recite an incantations before they release their Kidou, giving it added power, though it takes a while to say, and in the heat of battle, time isn't something to be wasted. Shunpo (Flash Step) - A high speed technique used by Shinigami to move quickly form place to place, as well as maneuver with increased agility in combat.

Gigai - An artificial or faux body that a Shinigami inhabits when they have been injured or lose their powers. Rukia inhabits on after her powers are transfered to Ichigo, and much to his surprise, shows up at his school! These artificial bodies are also used by Mod-Soul in battle, or at least they would have been.

Gikongan - translated "Artificial Soul Pill". Shinigami use these pills to force souls out of cadavers that still cling to their bodies. Once swallowed, it forces the main soul out simultaneously allowing a "temporary" soul to enter and take over the body.

Mod-Soul - Basically what the name suggests, its a modified soul that has been augmented for battle against the Hollows. Originally developed by the Soul Society in project "Spearhead" for that very purpose. However, speculation arose as to whether it was right to use the bodies of the dead they were to be injected in and force them to fight. In light of this the project was cancelled and all Mod-Souls were to be destroyed, however it seemed that Kon dodged the bullet.

Kikan-Shinki - translated "Memory Replacer", it does exactly what its name implies, when activated in front of someone's face it creates an explosion which erases the recipients memory and randomly selects another to replace it. This is used by Shinigami if a human with high enough spirit energy witnesses their work.they obviously prefer to keep a low profile while in the Human World.

Sinten - A liquid tranquilizer that renders those whom it touches unconcious if their spirit energy is low enough. This is used by Hanatarou to incapacitate one the guards of the Senzaikyuu.

Seki Seki Stone - A mineral used by Shinigami as building material for specific structures, such as the Senzaikyuu, because of its unique properties. Seki Seki stone has the ability to block all Spiritual pressure enclosed around it, making it useful for places like prisions.

Tenkai Kecchuu - translated "Binding Pillar of the Revolving Worlds", it is a technique that acts as a massive Senkaimon, virtually transporting locations as large as entire cities to a location in the Rukingai of Soul Society. It was used by Urahara and the Shinigami to "swap out" Karakura Town with a replica constructed in Soul Society, so as to thwart Aizen's construction of the King's Key.

Hollow

Hollow – A soul whose “chain of fate” has been broken or removed, exposing a hole in their chests where their heart once resided. Their hearts now gone, they act on instinct, devouring other souls to ease their pains of regret. Hollows are mostly without a recognizable intelligence, though as they feed they seem to become more conscious of their original will, while gaining more power. When a soul becomes a Hollow, it usually goes after it's family's souls to devour first, as they were the ones they were closest to in life. There are different types of Hollows, such as the mighty menos (check out the Hollow Bios page for details), and the Arrancar.

Hueco Mundo - The realm of the Hollows, where they dwell when not hunting souls. The Hollows are safe from the Shinigami here, as they cannot detect them until they enter the Human World.

Garuganta - translated "Black Cavity", this is a portal that connects Hueco Mundo to other realms, such as the Human World and Soul Society. Used by the Menos to appear above Soul Society and cast Negaccion on Aizen, Tousen, and Gin. This is used by the Arrancar to enter the Human World on missions from Aizen, such as Grimmjow and Ulquiorra. Urahara also uses it to transport first Ichigo, Chad, and Uryuu, then the 4 Captain reinforcements, Kenpachi, Unohana, and Kurutsuchi to Hueco Mundo to save Orihime.

Los Noches - Aizen's base of operations while in Hueco Mundo. It's pretty much the only recognizable landmark in the vast sands of the Hollow world, and is home to the most powerful Hollows and a majority of Aizen's army. This place, like the Soul Society, is overflowing with spirit particles.

Arrancar - A Hollow who's mask has been removed in order to gain the powers of a Shinigami. This gives the Hollow added power, as well as a Zanpakuto. Using a technique called "Ressurecion" they release their Zanpakuto and temporarily regain their former Hollow powers. The natrual appearance of Arrancar has been known to Soul Society, though the arival of completed psuedo-Arrancar made by the Hogyoku under Aizen's control is growing as he amasses his Hollow army.

Resurreccion - This is the act of an Arrancar releasing their Zanpakuto. This release allows them to call upon their former Hollow powers. Each Resurrecion is obviously different between Hollows, however an Espada's release is far more powerful than your average Arrancar.

Cero (Doom Blast) - A high density beam of spirit energy that a Hollow of Menos stature or higher can fire. While most appear red in color, there have been variations seen, as with Ulquiorra's blue/green Cero. There is also a more powerul version that only the Espada are allowed to use, called the Gran Rey Cero (translated "Grand King's Cero"), used by Grimmjow and apparently requires the blood of the Hollow using it to function. This attack can be fired from any appendage; including the mouth, fingers, eyes, and hands.

Bala - (translated "Hollow Bullet") Though not as powerful as a Cero, it can be fired 20 times faster. Even if it isn't as powerful, it still packs a punch, able to blow holes in walls.

Sonido - (translated "Echoing Movement") This is pretty much the Hollow equivelent of the Shinigami's Shunpo, giving them high-speed maneuverability, though the specific technique isn't explained.

Quincy

Quincy - A race of humans who possesed the ability to see Hollows and trained to fight them. They were once a powerful clan, but their differences of philosphy with the Shinigami led to their demise. The Quincy have many techniques and abilities that resemble that of the Shinigami. The Quincies, rather than using their own Spirit Energy, draw it from the things arround them, forming a bow. It is stated by Uryuu that Quincies only use bows, though it is seen that they used a sort of crossbow variation long ago in their battle with the Bounts.

Hirankyaku - The Quincy equivalent to the Shinigami's Shunpo. A Quincy gathers spirit energy in a current at the soles of their feet, allowing to achieve high speed manerverability.

Sangrei-shuto - This glove is used by the Quincy to augment their ability to disperse Reishi. If a Quincy can form a bow while wearing it, and can train with it for 7 days and nights, they will achieve the epitome of the Quincy's power. However, once they reach this stage, the glove must never be removed. Removing the glove will accelerate their dispersement of Reshi to an incredible level, transforming them into the Quincy's Final Form, but only for a time. Humans can only take so much power, exposure to such a strong power will harm them, and render them unable to use their Quincy power after the Final Form has faded.

Ransotengai - A technique used by elderly Quincies to fight with their feeble aged bodies. It involves taking countless strands of Spirit energy, bundling them together, and attaching them to the immobilized or incapaciated limbs, almost like a puppet on strings. This technique allows a Quincy to fight until their bodies are reduced to dust, dislocated joints and torn flesh mean nothing to those who have mastered this technique.

Seele Schneider - The only edged weapon the Quincy posses. Translated from German to be "soul cutter" it can do exactly as its name implies. Its blade is composed entirely of Reishi, which are constatnly revolving at 3,000,000 times a second, making it like a chainsaw. However, the Quincy exclusively uses bows, so a Seele Schneider can be fired as an arrow as well. When Seele Shneider cuts something, it looses the Reishi binding it together, making it easier to absorb. Using a technique called Sprenger (translated "Blaster"), a Quincy uses 5 Seele Schneiders and forms the Quincy pentagram around their opponent and uses their own spirit energy to trigger a massive explosion, eradicating anything caught within the pentagram.

Other
Whole (Plus) – A soul whose “Chain of Fate” is still attached. Souls who have left their bodies wander until a Shinigami comes and performs Konso, or soul funeral, sending them to the Soul Society. Some Wholes harber regrets that are attached to a specific place or person, as evidenced if their Chain of Fate is wraped around it.

Vizard - Inversely to the Arrancar, the Vizard are Shinigami who have called upon their inner Hollow to gain its power. This grants them each a Hollow mask, which can be summoned at will, but must be trained with in order to maintain their Hollow state for extended periods. This "Hollowized" form grants them increased power and enhanced combat effectiveness.

Reiraku (spirit ribbons) - These "ribbons" are physical manifestations of spirit energy, and can be used to visualize a spirit's aura and track them. Contrasting the normal white ribbons of humans, Shinigami's Reiraku appear red in color.

Reiatsu - Otherwise known as "Spiritual Pressure" or "Spirit Energy". This equates to the amount of power a soul posseses, and can be used to distinguish and detect a person nearby.

Ryoka - translated, "intruder" or "drifter"; this is the title given to Ichigo and the others by the Shinigami when they invade the Soul Society to save Rukia.

Reishi - spirit particles; the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, being spirit realms, are composed entirely of them. This makes it beneficial to people like Uryuu who draw power from the spirit energy around them, so while being in one of these realms, his power is increased considerablly. This corresponds with "Kishi" the particles that make up the Human World.

Senkaimon - A gateway between the Soul Society and the Human World, used by Urahara to transport Ichigo and the others to the Soul Society to save Rukia. Urahara's custom Senkaimon also posesses a device that can transform a human into soul form, allowing them access into the spirit realm of the Soul Society. It has been seen that certain noble families, such as the Kasumi-ouji, have access to their own private Senkaimon, and can pass between the Living World and Soul Society at their own discretion.

Dangai - The void between the Human World and the Soul Society, Ichigo and the others must pass though this realm to reach the Soul Society to save Rukia. Orihime is also kidnapped by Ulquiorra within this void during a transfer to the Human World after her training with Rukia. An entity or device simply called "The Cleaner" passes through the Dangai regularly, cleaning out unwanted visitors, such as Hollows or Ryoka.

Tenshintai - translated "Transform Soul Body", this is a human shaped doll used by the Stealth Force to forcebully summon the spirit of the Zanpakutou into the visible plane. Normally a Shinigami must train for 10 yrs to achive manifestation on their own, this device does it for them. Developed by Urahara Kisuke, and tested using his own body, he was the first to achieve Bankai in 3 days using this method. During this, he determined that 3 days was the maximum and minumum time needed to achieve Bankai using the Tenshintai. Merely thrusting their Zanpakuto into it will force the spirit to materialize, and the training begins!
