Zanpakuto Bios
Each Zanpakuto is unique to the Shinigami who weilds it and has a name and spirit of it's own. When a Hollow is slain with a Zanpakuto, it's sins commited as a Hollow are cleansed and the soul is sent to the Soul Society. A Zanpakuto has 2 known releases, the Shikai and the more powerful Bankai. Zanpakuto can also have different elemental varieties, like Toshiro's "flowing water and ice type" and Yamamoto's "fire type" Zanpakuto. Here are all the Zanpakuto that have been seen, their Shikai, Bankai (if
either has been revealed), and their abilities! The list is organized alphabetically by the name of the Zanpakuto, not of the name of the Owner, so keep that in mind. Sorry about them all being centered, the EasyEdit saving process doesn't like to keep my original formatting >.>. Enjoy~!
A - G
| Ashisogi Jizo - (translated "Ksitigarbha's Killer Head" though it can be translated other ways) Owner: Mayori Kurutsuchi, Captain, Squad 12, Second Generation Head of Research and Developement Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Claw Out" Ashisogi Jizo takes on the form of a crooked trident when released. It has the ability to paralyze anything it cuts, though unlike tranquilizers, it specifically leaves intact the pain receptors and nerve endings, so that not an ouce of pain is lost after being paralyzed. Bankai: Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo - (translated "Golden Ashisogi Jizo") Mayori's Bankai summons the avatar of his Zanpakuto, a giant catteripillar with a golden infant's head. It spews poisonous gas made from Mayori's blood that is lethal to all save Mayori himself and his Lieutenant, Nemu. It can also extend a group of blades from it's chest, to impale and skewer enemies. It is reveles that Mayori often changes the poison it releases after each use, and has placed an explosive mechanism that he can use to force his Bankai to self-destruct, should it ever bite his hand. |   |
| Benihime - (translated, "Crimson Princess") Owner: Kisuke Urahara, former Captain of Squad 12, First Generation Head of Department of Research and Development Shikai: Summoned by calling out, "Awaken" Benihime is usually concealed in the form of a Urahara's cane before released. It was not always in this form, so it is likely Urahara has made modifications to his Zanpakuto, perhaps in more than just appearance. Benihime's blade widens and the hilt curves when it is released, and also sports a red ribbon and other elaborate decorations on the hilt. Urahara gains the ability to fire bursts of energy, similar to a Hollow's cero blast by his own admission, with the command "Scream". He can also create a barrier, called the "Blood Mist Shield", to protect himself Bankai: Has not been revealed; achieved by use of his creation, the Tenshintai |   |
| Fuji Kujaku: (translated, "Wisteria Peacock") Owner: Yumichika Ayasegawa, 5th seat, Squad 11 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Bloom" When released the blade resembles that of a sicle which can split at the base, the crossguard, into 4 identicle blades. Much to his dissapointment and embarassment, Fuji Kujaku is a Kidou-style Zanpakuto. Depending on the name summoned after saying the command Sakukure (translated, "Split and Deviate"), it has different attacks. When Yumichika simply calls out it's name, the blade glows and grows peacock feather made from spirit energy, by saying Sakikurue ("Split and Deviate"), it consumes his enemes spirit energy, leaving them powerless and unable to fight. Using the same command, Sakikure, he is able to transform it into Ruriiro Kujaku (translated "Azure Peacock") which grows long thick stems with peacock feathers on them. These stems wrap around and restrain the enemy, while simultaneously draining their Spirit Energy, transfering them to the feathers, which double as flowers in that they grow the more Spirit Energy they absorb. Once they bloom, all the enemies Spirit Energy is drained, and thus they are defeated. Bankai: Has not been achieved/revealed. |  |
| Gegetsuburi - (translated, "Five-Form Head") Owner: Marechiyo Omaeda, Lieutenant, Squad 2 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Crush" Gegetsuburi transforms into a large spiked ball and chain when released. It's abilities are unknown Bankai: Has not been revealed, doubtedly been achieved |  |
| Gonryomaru - (translated, "Solemn Spirit") Owner: Chojiro Sasakibe, Lieutenant, Squad 1 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Bite" Gonryomaru transforms into a rapier when summoned, matching Chijiro's appearance. It's abilities are unknown. Bankai: Has not been achieved/revealed |  |

| Haineko - (translated "Ash Cat") Owner: Rangiku Matsumoto, Lieutenant, Squad 10 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Growl" Just like the name, Haineko dissolves into ash when released, which can be controlled by Rangiku. This is no ordinary ash, it can cut through things just as easliy as a sword would. Bankai: Hasn't been achieved/revealed |   |
| Hisagumaru - (tranalated, "Gourd") Owner: Hanataro Yamada, 7th seat, Leader of the 14th relief squad, Squad 4 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Fill" as well as meeting a special condition Contrasting what a normal Zanpakuto, and for that matter a normal weapon, does, Hisagumaru actually heals the injuries inflicted by it. However, all is not lost, as "damage" is inflicted, the bar on the side of the blade fills up. When it is fully "charged", it releases all the wounds it has healed in a single, powerful, attack by becoming Akeiro Hisagumaru (translated, "Crimson Gourd"), which resembles a scalpel. The energy released is powerful, strong enough to harm a Menos Grande. Bankai: Has not been achieved/revealed |  |
| Hozukimaru: (translated, "Demon Light") Owner: Ikkaku Madarame, 3rd seat, Squad 11 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "split" Ikkaku slams his hilt and scabbard together with enthusiasm, and they fuse to create a long, 3 piece, nunjuck style Halberd. Though it has no special abilities, this Shikai can split into three sections, which Ikkaku uses skillfully in combat. Bankai: Ryumon Hozukimaru (translated, "Dragon Crest Demon Light") Raw power is what Ryumon Hozukimaru brings, which can be hard on the blades, making them brittle and cracking. Ikkaku now weilds two large halberd-style blades in the form of swords. An oversized halberd-style blade connects them by chains and floats behind him. There is a Dragon Crest on the front of the oversized halberd blade, and it acts as a power meter, the more it is filled the more damage it does. Attacking and being attacked fills it, when it is fully red, the full force of Ikkaku's Bankai is revealed!  |   |
| Hyorinmaru – (translated, “Ice Ring”) Owner: Toshiro Hitsugaya, Captain, Squad 10 Shikai: summoned by calling out, “Reign over the frosted frozen sky” Toshiro, in addition to the ability to summon a giant Chinese dragon made of ice at the swing of his sword, also gains a sickle-like blade attached by a long chain at the end of the hilt. Bankai: Daiguren Hyorinmaru (translated, “Great Crimson Lotus Ice Ring”) Once summoned, Toshiro gains the wings of a dragon, a tail, talon shaped feet wrap around his own, and a dragon’s head wraps around his right arm, all made of ice. Three flower petals are also materialized behind him that fade away over time and act as a count down to how long his Bankai lasts, but can be recharged by any body of water. Toshiro has revealed only 2 attacks thus far: the first, called Ryusenka (translated, “Dragon Hail Frame”), that can freeze an enemy that is stabbed and can then be shattered. Last is called Sennen Hyoro (translated, “Thousand Year Ice Prison”) which summons large pillars of ice to trap and envelop his enemies.

| Itegumo - (translated, "Frozen Snow") Owner: Isane Kotetsu, Lieutenant, Squad 4 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Run" Itegumo grows two, short, blade-like protrusions extending from the hilt in diagonal directions from the blade. It's abilities are unknown, though it's name insinuates a Flowing Water/Ice type. Bankai: Hasn't been achieved/revealed |  |
| Katen Kyokotsu - (translated, "Flower Heaven, Crazy Bone") Owner: Shunsui Kyoraku, Captain, Squad 8 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "When the Flower Wind Rages, the Flower God Roars, When The Wind of Heaven Rages, the Demon of the Underworld Sneers" Katen Kyokotsu transforms into two scimitars when released. It's abilities haven't been revealed in the anime or manga, though it is depicted to be able to summon tornadoes and fire wind blades in several Bleach games. Bankai: Hasn't been revealed |  |
| Kyoka Suigetsu - (translated, "Mirror Flower, Water Moon") Owner: Sosuke Aizen, Former Captain, Squad 5, Mastermind of the plot to make the new King's Key and destroy Soul Society. Shikai: Summoned by the command "Shatter" Anyone who witnesses it's Shikai release are steeped in a state of compete hypnosis from that moment on, until it is released by Aizen himself. It has the ability to create perfect illusions, as Aizen put it "making a fly appear to be a dragon, or a marsh a flowerbed". Anyone who is under this hypnotic spell cannnot dispel its affect, even if they are actively aware of it. Bankai: Hasn't been revealed |  |
| Minazuki - (translated, "Purify the Flesh") Owner: Retsu Unohana, Captain, Squad 4 Shikai: No summoning phrase has been specified Minazuki takes the form of a giant one-eyed manta ray with the ability to fly. It also has the ability to heal any within it's stomach. Though it isn't revealed that this is it's Shikai or Bankai in the anime or manga, though several Bleach games label it as the former. | Mirokumaru - (translated, "Maitreya Circle") Owner: Senna, Memory Rosary Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Bring Forth the Twilight" Mirokumaru transforms into a staff when released, resembling those seen used by the monks of ancient China. It possesses the ability to summon tornadoes infused with lightning that Senna can control and send after her enemies. This Zanpakuto wasn't hers, being the Memory Rosary, it belonged to a Shinigami who was lost to the world between the Human World and the Soul Society. Bankai: Wasn't achieved/revealed |  |
| Nejibana - (translated, "Twisted Flower") Owner: Kaien Shiba, Former Lieutenant, Squad 13 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Rankle the Seas and Heavens" Nejibana takes on the form of a long trident with a tuft of blue fur gathered at the top. Nejibana is depicted as having the ability to generate and control water, often used to send a tidal wave at opponents. Once used by Kaien, when his body was consumed by Metestacia, and then the 8th Espada, Aaroniero Arrurueri, it was used by the Espada in his fight with Rukia Kuchiki. | Ryujin Jakka: (translated, "Flowing Flame Blade") Owner: Shigekuni Genreyusai Yamamoto, Head Captain, Captain, Squad 1 Shikai: summoned by calling out, "All things of this world turn to ash" Things get hot when Yamamoto's Shikai is around, it is capable of consuming the very air around him in flames. The blade itself is engulfed in fire and practically disentegrate anything the blade is swung at. Yamamoto gains the attack Jokaku Enjo, (translated "Blazing Fortress") which encloses the target in a fiery prison. Ryujin Jakka is praised as the most powerful Zanpakutou, the blade with the strongest attack force. Bankai: Has not been revealed |  |
| Senbonzakura – (translated, “Thousand Cherry Blossoms”) Owner: Byakuya Kuchiki, Captain, Squad 6 Shikai: summoned by calling out, “Scatter” Senbonzakura shatters into countless tiny blades too small for the eye to see. When the blades turn and reflect the sunlight, they resemble a thousand flower petals falling. Byakuya can control all these countless blades and send them to attack distant targets. Bankai: Senbonzakura Kageyoshi (translated, “Beautiful Display of a Thousand Cherry Blossoms”) Byakuya drops his blade, which disappears into the ground, summoning two rows of blades on either side of him, which shatter into even more miniscule blades for Byakuya to control. This one’s got 4 attacks, the first is just more blades to command which can also compress and form a shield to protect him. Next he can compress the thousands of blades into four rows of swords that encompasses both him and his enemy by calling out Senkei (translated, “scene of massacre”), all the swords can be controlled and wielded at will. Third is when all the blades are compressed into a single, powerful, sword which coincides with giving Byakuya a pair of white wings and an arch between them by calling out Shūkei Hakuteiken (translated, “Final Scene, White Imperial Sword”). Last but not least is called Gokei (translated, “Pivotal Scene”) in which all the blades are commanded to attack from all sides, leaving no blind spots. That's gotta hurt. | Shinso - (translated, "Divine Spear") Owner: Gin Ichimaru, Former Captain, Squad 3 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Shoot to Kill" Depite being short in length, it more than makes up for it with it's Shikai attack. WIth the command "Shoot to Kill", Shinso extends like a bullet, seeking to impale anything int it's path. It has also been depicted as able to rain down blades on opponents in Bleach: Shattered Blade. Bankai: Has not been revealed |  |
| Sode No Shirayuki – (translated, “Sleeve’s White Snow”) Owner: Rukia Kuchiki, Squad 13 Shikai: summoned by calling out, “Dance” When released, her sword turns snow white: blade, hilt and all, and a long white ribbon it attached to the end of the hilt. It gains three different attacks. First is named “first dance white moon”, it creates a ring of ice when activated that freezes all caught in it and creates a column of ice directed straight up that does the same. The second is “next dance, white ripple” which calls forth a freezing avalanche to overtake her enemies. The last is “third dance, white sword” which if her sword breaks, reforms the blade with ice, even passing through walls and enemies. Bankai: Has not been achieved/revealed |   |
| Sogyo No Kotowari - (translated, "Law of the Twin Fish") Owner: Jushiro Ukitake, Captain, Squad 13 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Every Wave Become My Sheild, Thunder Become My Blade" One of the only Zanpakuto that exist in a pair, with Kyoraku's Katen Kyokotsu, Sogyo No Kotowari takes on the form of twin swords resembling fishing javelins with a jitte-like prong extending towards the hilt. The two blades are connected by a cord, with several charms along it. Though not shown in the anime or manga, it is depicted as being able to summon water and lightning in the game Bleach: Shattered Blade. Bankai: Hasn't been revealed |  |
| Suzumebachi: (translated, "Hornet") Owner: Soi Fon, Captain, Squad 2, Commander of the Stealth and Punishment Forces Shikai: summoned by calling out, "Sting all enemies to Death" Soi Fon's Shikai is undoubtedly the smallest one out there, but size isn't everything. Other than having the ability to inject and draw out poisons, once struck by Susumebachi a butterfly insignia (or Homonka) is tatooed on the point of contact. While not very stylish, if struck in the same place a second time, it deals death, no exceptions, game over. Bankai: Has not been revealed, seems to prefer Shunko ("Flash Release") |  |
| Suzumushi - (translated, "Bell Bug") Owner: Kaname Tousen, Former Captain, Squad 9 Shikai: It's summoned abilites are dependent on the commend used. If the command "Chime" is used, Suzumushi emits a high pitched sound that overloads the hearing of the enemy, rendering them unconscious. If the command "Smash His Limbs" is used, Suzumushi generates a group of blades that rain down on the enemy. Bankai: Suzumushi Enma Korogi (translated, "Demon's Cricket") Ten rings are generated which fly outward to form a orb that encloses a large area, thus making that entire area Tousen's Bankai. While inside this barrier, all but who hold Suzumushi have their senses, save that of touch, taken away, creating a "Dark Silent Hell" as Tousen put it. |

| Tachikaze - (translated, "Earth-Severing WInd") Owner: Kensei Muguruma, Former Captain, Squad 3, Vizard Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Blow it Away" Tachikaze takes on the form of a small combat/survival knife when released. It appears to have the ability to charge quanities of Spirit Energy and release them in an energy blast, much like Chad's. Bankai: Hasn't been revealed |  |
| Tenken - (translated, "Heaven's Punnishment") Owner: Sajin Komamura, Captain, Squad 8, Fox-thing Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Roar" Instead of the actualy blade changing shape, Tenken summons a giant diesembodied arm that copies Sajin's movements. i.e. if Sajin swings the blade and releases it, a giant arm weilding a sword appears and does the same thing Bankai: Kokujo Tengen Myo'o (translated, "Heavenly Punnishment of Kokujo's King") Keeping with the tradition that Bankai usually manifest themselves in large forms, Sajin's Bankai summons the entire black armored warrior (several stories tall), not just the dissembodies limbs anymore. This giant warrior, as before, copies any of Sajin's actions. Other than this, no other abilities or attacks have been revealed. |   |
| Tobiume - (translated, "Flying Plum Tree") Owner: Momo Hinamori, Lieutenant, Squad 5 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Snap" While in its Shikai state, the blade straightens and several thin prongs jut out from the blade and point in the direction of the blades edge. Momo gains the ability to focus and amplify her Kidou by the blade into pink colored energy spheres that can be fired by swinging the blade. Bankai: Has not been achieved/revealed |   |
| Tsunzakigarasu - (translated, "Splitting Crow") Owner: Jirobo Ikkanzaka Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Spread Your Wings") The Shikai release takes on the form of many flying double balded shuriken that can be controlled at will by Jirobo. If they are destroyed, he can sheath his Zanpakuto and summon more. Bankai: Was not revealed, now unable to achieve as Uryuu severed his Soul Chain and Soul Sleep, thus severing his Shinigami power. | Wabisuke - (translated, "The Penitent One") Owner: Izuru Kira, Lieutenant, Squad 3 Shikai: Summoned by calling out "Raise Your Head" Wabisuke takes on the form of a square-hooked blade when released. It has the ability to double the weight of anything it cuts, which has a cumulative effect, meaning that it continues doubling until Izuru finished striking. In the instance of this being used on another's Zanpakuto, it soon makes it too heavy to carry, making the opponent sink under it's weight and bowing as if applogizing, thus it's name (penitent meaning humble, appologetic). | Zabimaru – (translated, “Snake’s Tail”) Owner: Renji Abarai, Lieutenant, Squad 6 Shikai: summoned by calling out, “Roar” Zabimaru is an interesting sword, while in Shikai it changes into a whip-like blade w/ small blades protruding from the ends of each of its joints. Renji can whip Zabimaru around in powerful strokes allowing him to reach distant targets. Other than this, no special abilities have been revealed Bankai: Hihio Zabimaru (translated, “Baboon King Snakes Tail”) Zabimaru’s spirit takes on the form of a much larger form of the Shikai release resembling that of a skeletal snake. It’s basic attacks are used in the same way, Renji using it with whip-like attacks and ramming it skeletal head into the enemy and anything around it. The joints of his Bankai are connected by his spirit energy, making it impossible for any blade to cut through them, he can also disconnect the joints at will. Renji also gains 2 special attacks:1 called Higa Zekko (translated, “Broken Baboon’s fang”) which allows him fire the separate segments in an omni-directional attack. The 2nd is called Hikotsu Taiho (translated, “Baboon Bone Cannon”), this is pretty much a blast of Renji’s spirit energy fired from Hihio Zabimaru’s mouth. |

| Zangetsu – (translated, “Cutting Moon”) Owner: Ichigo Kurosaki, Substitude Shinigami, High School Student Shikai: no summoning word was revealed other than calling on its name. While in its shikai form it resembles that of a giant cleaver. Ichigo gains the ability to fire a blade-like wave of spirit energy by calling out the attack’s name – “Getsuga Tenshou”(translated, “moon sky-piercing fang”). Revealed in the show that Zangetsu takes his Spirit energy and focuses it into a high density beam. Bankai: Tensa Zangetsu (translated, “Heavenly Chain Cutting Moon”) When Ichigo releases his Bankai, his clothing changes, almost matching that of Zangetsu’s avatar, a long ragged coat. His sword becomes pure black, smaller, and with a chain hanging from the hilt. He can call upon the attack “Kuroi Getsuga” (translated "Black Moon Fang"), which resembles Getsuga Tenshou, but the energy released is black, more powerful, and can be controlled. While most Bankai are large, with Ichigo’s Bankai compressed into a sword, he gains a tremendous increase in speed while still being able to use the full force of his Bankai.
